Barrie HathawayBarrie Hathaway, Executive Director.  Barrie has been the Executive Director of the Stride Center since October 2004. A former supply chain management executive in the high technology sector, over the last twenty-five years he has worked for computer and telecommunications firms including Sun Microsystems, Bay Networks and Marconi Communications. He is the president of the board of directors for Care Through Touch Institute, an appointed member of the Richmond Workforce Development Board, the Co-Chair of the Community Technology Network of the Bay Area and a member of the City of San Pablo’s ad hoc committee on community wireless. Barrie is a graduate of the University of San Francisco where he completed a B.S. in Organizational Development and a Master of Nonprofit Administration.

Joe McKinleyJoe McKinley, Director of Training. Joe has been with The Stride Center for 5 years. Combined with his former background in retail he brings nearly twenty years of management experience to the highly qualified team at the Stride Center. He has a number of technical certifications including A+, Cisco, Network+, and MCSE certifications in both Windows NT and Windows 2000, much of which was self-taught. He is responsible training, curriculum development and new course offerings at The Stride Center as well as developing materials for workshops featuring experienced career professionals. Joe was recently selected to serve on the CompTia Education 2 Careers advisory Committee. He has also served as and advisor to the Contra Costa County School to Careers and is a member of the Pablo Community Wireless Task Force.  He is noted for successfully mentoring over hundreds of students through the exam certification process. Joe is also an ordained Baptist minister responsible for evangelism ministries at the Paradise Baptist Church in Oakland California.

Michelle ShutzerMichelle Shutzer, Associate Director. Michelle has worked with nonprofits: arts, media,
social justice and community technology organizations for nearly 20 years. She has managed numerous outcomes-based programs, developed successful earned-income initiatives, and managed marketing campaigns that have positively impacted service delivery for community based organizations in the Bay Area and beyond. After 5 years as a corporate recruiter in financial services and high tech she then began working with talent development projects. Michelle’s background includes: the corporate liaison at the Bay Area Video Coalition, steering committee for the San Francisco Information Technology Consortium, associate director for the Youth Media Initiative at the National Alliance of Media Arts and Culture (NAMAC), social net-worker for NetSquared, as well as an entrepreneur and business consultant to the commercial sector and social benefit corporations. Michelle has been selected as a fellow of the Congress-Busndestag exchange, Zero Divide Fellowship and the Full Circle Fund.  In 2005 Michelle completed a Masters in Nonprofit Administration at the University of San Francisco.

Stanley WadeStanley C. Wade, Enrollment Coordinator. Stanley is a Unites States Air Force veteran, and formerly a Production Manager for NightRider Overnight Copy. He came to The Stride Center in the summer of 2007 seeking to enroll as a student and wanting a career in IT. He has successfully completed courses at The Stride Center and continues to advance his IT skills by taking more courses. Stan has seven certifications from the Stride Center: MOUS, IC3, A+, N+, MCDST, MCP, and Linux+. As a former participant, Stanley has the passion to enroll students who are committed to change their lives and who have a will and a desire to succeed. He is a dedicated member of his church where he teaches, mentors and participates in food and clothing drives. He is an inspirational speaker at the community Hot Meal ministry.

Liliana MelanoLiliana Melano, Student Relations Manager. The Stride Center community having worked at a non-profit organization called Making Waves Education Program as an academic tutor, helping children from the Richmond/San Pablo area gain success in school and achieve higher learning by applying to accredited universities. She comes to the Stride Center with enthusiasm and passion to work with our students and bringing them success. Having worked in the non-profit community for 5 years she is now building on that training here at the Stride Center. She completed her undergraduate work at Saint Mary's College in Moraga. There she graduated with a major in Politics and spent time volunteering at Community Violence Solutions, and the Oakland Animal Shelter. She spent time in Rome, Italy during the fall of 2007, where she focused her studies in International Politics and also joined the women's soccer team. In her spare time Liliana enjoys spending time with her family and traveling.

Darby Patterson Sacramento Program Manager, Darby Patterson. Her Bio: Darby Patterson is a longtime Sacramento resident who has consulted on several projects in the Sacramento Region, worked in state government and as a journalist. She recently spearheaded a successful digital divide, wireless project in a North Sacramento low income housing development as a contractor with the Sacramento Region Community Foundation. Darby has excellent relationships with the business community and within local government. She works seamlessly with the media and is able to promote programs such as the Stride Center. In 2009, she launched a distance learning Stride Center A+ certification program in Sacramento with 4 disadvantaged students with the goal of establishing a permanent Stride presence in California’s capital. She was the former editor in chief of a national trade magazine that focused on the use of technology in government and, in the mid-1990s was a lobbyist/advocate for a regional nonprofit job training program. Darby is a commissioner on the County’s Adult and aging Commission and serves in a volunteer capacity on other boards. She has B.A. Degrees from UC Santa Barbara where she graduated with highest honors.

Rachelle ForbesRachelle Forbes, Office Manager. Rachelle Forbes has been employed with The Stride Center since 2005.  Rachelle had worked in the travel industry for over ten years, but when her office closed, she made the transition to obtain skills towards an Office Administrator position. She enrolled as a student in March 2004, and has taken all classes that The Stride Center has to offer, as well as received several industry standard certifications: MOS, A+ and MCDST.  In 2005 Rachelle joined The Stride Center as the Office Manager.  Rachelle earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Speech and Communications from San Francisco State University.

Isaias Leiva Isaias Leiva, Instructor. (IC3, A+, Network +).  Isaias A. Leiva teaches the Computer Apprentice Training program and A+ Certification Course among others. With 14 years in the work force diagnosing and repairing onboard computer systems, over the last 3 years, Isaias has taken twenty two computer courses in pursuit of an AA in Computer Network and Information Technology. Isaias is IC3, MOS, A+, N+, MCP, MCDST certified. Isaias is also an IC3 Authorized instructor and an approved BPPVE instructor. Isaias has significant technical experience and great passion for technology which combined with the mission of Stride Center has produced a technical instructor whose teaching style has been welcomed by our students.

Norman Trudeu Norman Trudeau, Instructor. (A+).
  Norm has spent the past 40 years working in the IT industry. Working over 20 years in Mainframes and moving on to Telecommunications. Norman has been a Network coordinator, Senior Teleprocessing Analyst and Manager for a Fortune 500 company in the financial district of San Francisco. Norman has been involved in teaching in the IT industry for over 20 years, most notably A+ and networking. Norman was Technical Training Coordinator involved in setting up and critiquing technical classes covering a wide variety of subjects to include programming and computer operations. He has taught at both public and private institutions such as Chabot College and Silicon Valley College and Martinez Unified School District. Norman is A+ certified.

Glenn Manley Glenn Manley, Instructor. (A+).
 Glenn spent his first 20 plus working years in the United States Marine Corps performing Naval Aircraft Avionics systems design and maintenance. While in the service Glenn taught Avionics Systems to pilots and maintenance crews at Naval Air Systems Command  “C” School detachment 1029 on Marine Air Station, El Toro, California. Later on Glenn taught Numerical Control for McDonald Douglas Corporation. He was recruited by McDonald Douglas Astronautics to design then maintain and train United States Strategic Air Command pilots and maintenance crews, to maintain and use photo reconnaissance equipment. Glenn has worked in the computer industry for Basic Four, and Systems Industries in Systems Engineering and Field Service Engineering. Glenn has taught in the Information Technology field for the last 15 plus years at CollegeAmerica, Foundation College and Silicon Valley College in Walnut Creek, California. Glenn has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science and a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from Trinity College. Glenn Is A+ certified.

Daniel Rivas Daniel Rivas, Instructor.
 I have been working in the computer industry for 20 years, some of the jobs I have done over these years are:  Computer Repair Technician, Field Services Engineer, Laser Printer Repair Technician, Computer Trainer/Mentor, and Network Administrator, obtained an AS degree in computer Technology, Certified by Comptia as A+ Technician, MCSE by Microsoft and CCNA by Cisco Systems.

Leslie Pitts III Leslie Pitts III, Instructor.
 Leslie joined the Stride Center in 2010. Having served a decade in the financial banking industry with Bank of America and JP Morgan, he brings to the Stride Center team a pletehora of experience in customer service, desktop support and infrastructure management. He also brings years of electronic and hardware experience to the company.   •   Being an avid marathon runner and charity fundraiser, he has completed twenty full marathons and raised over $10,000 towards American Diabetes Association and American Cancer Society. He is an accomplished Toastmaster, published author, ScoutMaster and enjoys hiking in his spare time.   •   He is enrolled at Diablo Valley College in Concord, CA to complete his degree while working in San Pablo as an IC3 instructor to teach Internet and computing fundamentals. He holds an IC3 certification from Certiport and looks forward to attaining other certifications, such as A+, MSDST and Microsoft Office Specialist.

Willie Lockett Willie Lockett, Instructor.
 Willie's background spans over 20 years of Information Technology Service Delivery in the corporate arena, as well significant contributions to the community service sector.   •   In addition to working as a Project Manager for Kaiser Permanente, Willie managed the Project Management team for the Federal Reserve Bank's Call Center, where he was responsible for managing project activity that covered a five-state region. His Help Desk management and Network Administration experience rounds out his IT background and helps provide insight to students seeking careers in IT.   •   Willie has always enjoyed community involvement, and has served on the Board of Directors for several community-based IT organizations. His contributions include serving as Professional Development chairman for Black Data Processing Associates, Project Manager for the Martin Luther King elementary school campus-wiring and technology roll-out, as well instructor for IT summer camps.   •   Willie is a graduate of the University of San Francisco, with a B.S. in Information Technology Management.

Frank Wiley Frank Wiley, Instructor.
 Frank Wiley is IC3 qualified and has more than 20 years experience in educational technology starting as a multimedia CD ROM and web developer. He has been a researcher in education technology at Apple Computer. As an instructor his experience ranges from being an instructional designer for an online law and business university to secondary school computer class teacher.   •   Frank has expert knowledge of both Apple and Windows operating systems and a wide variety of applications. His expertise in technology has often been applied to helping schools and students use educational technology in the classroom to enhance learning.

Miguelle Lee Miguelle Lee, Project Coordinator.
 Miguelle Lee is the Program Coordinator of Progress Richmond, a special project through which the Stride Center is serving Richmond/San Pablo residents with higher barriers to employment. During more than 10 years in the marketing and promotions industry Miguelle worked with both national and international retailers such as Sony, Panasonic, Gamesa, Proctor/Gamble and others. Additionally, she taught personal development and professional preparedness skills to more than 800 middle and high school students in the Los Angeles Unified School District during 5 years as a promotional speaker. She is excited to join the Stride Center in its mission to launch community residents out of poverty into upwardly mobile career paths in IT.
